project description

For this project, I worked with a team to design a website for a sausage company. The team consists of a graphic designer, UI/UX designer, and a web developer. This is an ongoing project and we are still waiting for the other products to be released before we can complete the website. For now, the client wants a simple one-page website for one product with a simple order form at the bottom. We are also still waiting for other photos, product description and nutritional information of the product.

Introduction

The Client and Product:

Godinez316 is a sausage company that sells different kinds of Filipino sausages in California. The client requested a simple one-page website of one of their products which is called Cebu Style Chorizo. Once the other products are released, we will be designing and developing a one-page website containing all products with a simple order form located at the bottom of the page.

Challenge and Solution

To design a simple one-page website where vendors can order the product. Later on, the client wants all of the other products to be included in the page.

Design Process

  1. Define and Research
  2. Analyze User Findings: User Stories
  3. Wireframe
  4. Prototype
  5. Result/Conclusion

Step One

Step One: Define and Research

Before speaking with the client, we wrote down these questions so we know what to ask the client.

  1. Who are the users that will interact with the website?
  2. What is the goal of the website or what does it want to accomplish?
  3. Why would the users need to interact with the website?
  4. How would the users interact with the website?

Client Meeting

The client gave us a list of what the website is for, the colors that they want, and the information that they want on the website. A contract was also made to prevent scope creep from occurring.

  1. The website is for the vendors who want to place an order
  2. A very simple one-page website
  3. Colors: White, Red, Yellow, Black (similar to the colors used for the logo)
  4. A simple order form with Name, Phone Number, Email Address, and Home Address
  5. The initial release of the website will only have one product. Later on, the website will be redesigned and all the other products will be added.

Personal Research

After researching and asking around, another potential user for this website would be a consumer. Usually, consumers check a food product's website for nutritional information (just in case the label has been thrown away). We spoke with the client about this and nutritional information will be added later on once we redesign the website.

Step Two

Step Two: Analyze User Findings

User Stories

I created two user stories - vendor and consumer.

Step Three

Step Three: Wireframe

Low Fidelity Wireframes

I created two wireframes to show the client the structure of the website. The first one only has one product and the second one includes all the other products that they will plan to sell soon.

Step Four

Step Four: Prototype

I created a prototype for the current website. Initially, we placed the logo on the top left, which is standard for most websites. However, the page looks more balanced if the logo is placed on the right side instead.

Step Five

Step Five: Result/Conclusion

The team was able to launch the website based on what the client wanted and what they provided. No description has been written about the product yet.

We plan to change the images and add a product description once the client provides us with the materials.

The website will be redesigned once the other products of the client have been released to the market. We will add each product's description, images, and nutritional information.

Once the website is complete, we plan to evaluate it (Usability Testing) to fulfill the needs of the users.

What I Learned

Takeaways

  • Designing with a Client: In this project, the client knew what they wanted on their website. I learned that sometimes, the design depends on the client and we have to be able to adapt our designs to their wants as well.
  • Suggestions for the Client: Depending on the client, suggestions can be made to the design of the website. In this case, a suggestion was made if nutritional information can be placed on the website for the consumers. As a UX designer, my job was to find ways to make the website accessible to more people - focusing on the needs of the user.
  • Contract: To prevent scope creep from happening, a contract should be signed at the beginning of the project.
